From a masonry based partnership back in the mid-80s, Darrock & Brown grew into a small building contractor mainly working on new houses and similar projects.
As with all things in life, the normal became the mundane. That, coupled with increasing pressure from new build competitors, it eventually resulted in some soul searching for fresher challenges.
Several years of hard work later, Phil Brown fulfilled his other ambition of becoming a supplier of conservation products and set up the Cornish Lime Co. Darrock & Brown eventually went to a Ltd Co, with a gradual management purchase transition, led by Bill Gladwell, Arthur Britton and Pete Wherry. The relationship between the, by now, two separate companies, continued to flourish with D&B still sourcing the vast majority of its masonry requirements from the Cornish Lime Co.
In late 2010, Darrock and Brown completed the move from sharing a yard space with Cornish Lime, and moved into its own premises on Normandy Way, where fully self- maintained operating premises serve the purpose.
The early philosophy of getting back to our roots continues to this day with the main focus on church and historical building projects, large and small. The Darrock & Brown client base is huge and diverse, with clients scattered all over the UK and even in Ireland. Local authorities, County Council, English Heritage, Natural England, The National Trust, numerous Chartered Surveyors and Architects complement the client base.
